OMA Environment Committee Updated on Greenhouse Gas, PFAS Regulations

10/07/2022

On Oct. 5, more than 50 members of the OMA Environment Committee gathered in Columbus and virtually for the committee’s last scheduled meeting of 2022. John Rego with OMA Connections Partner Benesch provided an in-depth look at greenhouse gas-related provisions in the recently enacted Inflation Reduction Act. Rego said nothing in the new federal law impacts the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 2022 ruling, which struck down efforts by the Obama-era U.S. EPA to regulate greenhouse emissions from power plants. (However, the law does reaffirm that greenhouse gasses are considered pollutants.) In addition to updates on OMA activity, the committee also received a briefing from Nile Elam, senior director, energy and resources policy for the National Association of Manufacturers, on federal proposals related to PFAS. Elam advised manufacturers to examine their value chain for connections to past and present PFAS use. 10/5/2022
