Report: Career/Tech Students See Little Actual Manufacturing

08/10/2018

Here are some findings from a recent report by The Manufacturing Institute about the role of career and technical education (CTE) in attracting students into manufacturing:

  • 63% of students enrolled in CTE courses see their own interests and experiences as a major influence in their career pathway, and parents are the second-largest influence at 32%.
  • 35% of students enrolled in CTE courses say that have no contact with potential future employers, with only 12% experiencing site visits, 20% having pathway-related summer jobs and 13% having pathway-related after-school jobs.

Manufacturing Day was created to inspire and recruit the next generation of manufacturers. Since plant tours open to students are rare, MFG DAY is many students’ best shot at seeing what modern manufacturing really looks like, giving them a memorable experience that could inspire them to pursue careers in the industry. 8/7/2018
